10 years... [27 Jan 2011|12:09am]

[ mood | gloomy ]

I can't believe it's been that long ago. I was still a student at Oklahoma State University when the men's basketball team lost 10 people associated with it on this day in 2001. All I remember thinking at the moment I first heard about it was, "How could this happen?" And I was in attendance at the team's first home game after the crash. It was a very emotional moment as well.

Nate Fleming, Dan Lawson, Bill Teegins, Kendall Durfey, Will Hancock, Pat Noyes, Brian Luinstra, Jared Weiberg, Denver Mills, and Bjorn Falistrom, you all may be gone, but you're not forgotten.

New SportsLife College Football Preview At LifeEpicurean.com: The Big East [16 Sep 2009|10:30am]

metrogq

The Big East has developed a bit of a reputation as the Rodney Dangerfield of the major BCS conferences-getting no respect. Despite the fact that they fielded a number of talented teams, and produced no fewer than 3 first round draft picks in the NFL Draft. The fact is, there’s plenty of talent to be had out of the Big East, and with a number of interesting stories happening at a number of schools, the Big East may well produce another new conference champion, and another school may rise from the ashes to see itself in a BCS Bowl. With a variety of schemes being employed, and with some top tier talent in the conference, there’s no shortage of exciting games on the schedule, and no shortage of teams primed to shatter the perception of the Big East as a second tier conference. With a lot of teams to like, and none that stand out, SportsLife will break down the grain from the chaff. READ MORE HERE.

OSU's bowl selection is in. [07 Dec 2008|07:42pm]

marauderosu
[ mood | anxious ]

OSU will face Oregon in the Holiday Bowl on December 30th. This comes on the 20th anniversary of the Cowboys' appearance in the 1988 Holiday Bowl. Back then, Mike Gundy was the quarterback, completing 20-of-24 passes for 315 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Barry Sanders rushed for 222 yards and five touchdowns as the Cowboys trounced Wyoming, 62-14, that year. This time around, Mike Gundy is the head coach, becoming the first player to participate in that game as a player and as a coach.

P.S.: Go Gators!

A joke I found today [01 Oct 2008|05:09pm]

marauderosu
[ mood | amused ]

Four football fans climb a mountain - a Nebraska fan, a Texas fan, an OSU fan & an OU fan. They argued all the way up the mountain about who was the most "die hard" fan. When they reached the top, the Nebraska fan proclaimed to the other three, "This is for the Huskers!" and threw himself off the mountain as a sacrifice. Not to be out done by the Nebraska fan, the Texas fan jumped up and shouted, "Hook 'em, Horns!" and threw himself off the mountain.

Refusing to be outdone by Nebraska and Texas fans, the OSU fan jumped to his feet and yelled, "THIS IS FOR THE POKES!" and without any hesitation pushed the OU fan off the mountain.

Prospective transfer with questions [28 Aug 2008|10:05pm]

starcrossed
I'm thinking of transferring and majoring in zoology.

How strictly is the no alcohol policy enforced in Wentz and Kerr-Drummond? I really want a substance free place to live!

Also are there any oportunities for internships or volunteer work at any zoos or aquariums nearby (if any exist?) To begin with I won't have a car

Many thanks in advance xxx

is anyone selling their car? [21 Jul 2008|05:21pm]

photopenguin
[ mood | hopeful ]

Is anyone selling a RELIABLE car that will get me back and forth from Stillwater to Tulsa consistently every weekend?

I am not looking for a car to work on or that I will have to invest in a "little" to get to run properly. I'm looking for a mid-to-late nineties or newer used sedan that will get me from A to B safely and promptly. Looks aren't everything, but I'd prefer no rust damage.

Maybe you're finding yourself wanting to upgrade your car or needing something bigger because your family is growing... whatever the circumstance, if you're selling your car, please let me know!

Apple Creek? [15 Jul 2008|05:47pm]

photopenguin
[ mood | rushed ]

Hi again...

Any input on Apple Creek apartments?

Basically I am having no luck finding a place close to campus that takes pets and is within my price range. And actually, the only apartment available in this complex for me and a pet is a two bedroom, which seems excessive, but I'll take it if there's nothing else in town, since it was mentioned by name by two people in my department.

[On a side rant: I realize I waited late in the game to look for a place, but can realtors and property management companies PLEASE stop telling me so, as if I don't know. As if I can control being misinformed by my department. Grr.]

I have 48 hours to do my research on Apple Creek and get back to them, or to find an alternative. I picked up a paper in town today and will be looking at the classifieds and I got some recommendations from an undergraduate senior I met at Starbucks who goes to OSU (she was very friendly!)... but I was wondering if anyone know about or have first hand experience with Apple Creek... so far the negative reviews I have read are about noise on the weekends, which doesn't really much bother me. Especially because I may spend all my weekends in Tulsa anyway.

:-)

Thank you for any input whatsoever...

help, please! [10 Jul 2008|10:06am]

photopenguin
[ mood | hopeful ]

This may not be the right community to ask for information on this matter... and if it isn't, could somebody please let me know where else I could look?

I was admitted into a grad program at OSU. I live in Tulsa, and I was planning on completing my degree in Tulsa (this is possible.) However, I had no idea that I can only be a TA in Stillwater. Because of this slight misunderstanding, I'm now having to look for a place to live in Stillwater, and I have to move soon!

I was wondering if any of you have any input on the safer areas in Stillwater to live? I have a dog, I prefer to live alone, and I would love to be able to walk to campus, BUT I know that my pet situation makes my "wants" nearly impossible. Here's what I'd love to know:

  1. Can you please recommend websites I can visit to search for housing in Stillwater? (All I know of so far is craigslist, and I know that can't be the best place to look, right?)
  2. Which are the safest parts in town?
  3. Which places do you recommend or recommend I stay away from?
Thank you so much to anyone who can chime in on this!!

Animal Shelter Million Dollar Makeover [25 Mar 2008|12:30pm]

heartsongforgod
Hey, did you know our local animal shelter is in a contest to win a million dollar makeover? Did you even know we had an animal shelter?! Well, it is, we do and you can help!

There’s a website called zootoo.com that is having a contest for an animal shelter to win a million dollar makeover. Our shelter's building is very old, there’s not much in the way of exercise pens and it’s a no kill shelter so some of the dogs and cats have to live in these poor conditions for a long time. I would love it if any of you and anyone you know could take a few minutes and vote in the contest to help us out. If you would like to vote for the shelter it’s easy and fast to do.

Just go to www.zootoo.com/makeover. At the top right corner will be a place to register. You need to register but it’s free, they won’t send you any e-mails after the confirmation email unless you want them to and is a great site to join anyway. If you want to double the points your vote is worth, instead of registering, send me a response with your email address so that I can email you a referral to register. That will earn 200 points instead of just 100. This is also a good option if you are having trouble getting onto the site.

When you register, there will be a place to affiliate with a shelter. Enter in the zip code 74074 and select the Humane Society of Stillwater (should be the first one on the list). Respond to the confirmation email and it’s that easy, you’re done and have helped a shelter get that much closer to winning a makeover. We need something like 4,000 people to vote in order to move us up to the top 20 and voting ends on Sunday! So if you can help, please do so and vote soon. Thank you, I appreciate anyone’s help on this!
